love alone by caedmon's call
No one would love me
if they knew all the things I hide
My words fall to the floor
As tears drip through the telephone line
And the hands I’ve seen raised to the sky
Not waving but drowning all this time
I'll try to build an ark that they need
To float to you upon the crystal sea
chorus:
Give me your hand to hold
'Cause I can't stand to love alone
And love alone is not enough to hold us up
We've got to touch your robe
So swing your robe down low
Swing your robe down low
The prince of despair's been beaten
But the loser still fights
Death's on a long leash
Stealing my friends to the night
And everyone cries for the innocent
You say to love the guilty too
And I'm surrounded by suffering and sickness
So I'm working tearing back the roof
(chorus)
And the pain of the world is a burden
And it's my cross to bear
And I stumble under all the weight
I know you're Simon standing there
And I know you're standing there
notus: i remember dave singing this song back in college. he wasn't the only jesus freak i know. raen, too. i wonder why things didn't work out for them... sigh.

amber by 311
Brainstorm
take me away from the norm
I got to tell you something
this phenomenon
I had to put it in a song
and it goes like
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
whoa, shades of gold displayed naturally
you ought to know what brings me here
you glide through my head blind to fear
and I know why
whoa, amber is the color of your energy
whoa, shades of gold displayed naturally
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
whoa, shades of gold displayed naturally
You live too far away
your voice rings like a bell anyway
don't give up your independence
unless it feels so right
nothing good comes easily
sometimes you gotta fight
Whoa, amber is the color of your energy
whoa, shades of gold displayed naturally
launched a thousand ships in my heart, so easy
still it's fine from afar, and you know that
whoa, brainstorm take me away from the norm
whoa, I got to tell you something
notus: a cosmopolite. a woman of the world. she has always been my wahine dream... but i dunno who she is.

big dream by samantha mathis
i have a dream, my own
and it's mine and mine alone
it's been my friend since i was just a girl
it has a life, it has a heart
has a soul and it's a part
of everything this woman keeps the world
and it's a big dream
big enough to share
like a rainbow, hanging in the air
nothing dark making it come true
makes me think maybe god's a woman too
makes me think maybe god's a woman too
there's a full moon tonight
and i'm bathing in its light
naked as the day i was born
there's no shame beneath this sky
i have kissed the past goodbye
and mended my broken heart so torn
with a sweet sound
only i can make
and it gets stronger with every breath i take
and it's all part of making me feel new
makes me think maybe god's a woman too
makes me think maybe god's a woman too
notus: this reminds of the movie This Thing Called Love. i remember how River Phoenix takes Samantha Mathis up to the top of a building in the middle of the city and introduces her to a sort-of "rite of passage". He tells her that she has to look out over the city and yell with determination: "Look out, Music City, 'cause I'm here now, and I ain't ever leaving!" i've always wanted to do this when i moved here but i didn't.
